Team
Tim Gruenewald, Producer, Writer, and Co-Director
In 2001, I drove from Atlanta to Seattle in 10 days. On day five I visited Wounded Knee and Mount Rushmore only a few hours apart. The experience stayed with me ever since. After studying and teaching in the US for 10 years, I left in 2009. I could not leave without returning to South Dakota to search for and capture the connection between Wounded Knee and Mount Rushmore.

Ludwig Schmidtpeter, Producer, Camera, and Co-Director
I came along for the ride.
Visiting and filming at the Pine Ridge Reservation and in the Black Hills
was an eye-and mind-opening experience. And I met some wonderful people on the way.

Marc Misman, Editor
Three years ago, Ludwig told me about the story of Sacred Ground. There was no money, but 50 hours of footage to be cataloged, sorted and edited.
I was sold right away.

Stephan Mathieu, Composer
I’m a musician and mastering engineer working in the fields of
electro-acoustic music. My work involves historical and obsolete media
and has been performed and published worldwide during the last 20
years. My sound has been compared to the landscape paintings of Caspar
David Friedrich and the work of Colorfield artists Mark Rothko, Barnett
Newman and Ellsworth Kelly.
Ludwig and Tim approached me about composing an original score for a
documentary on two memorial sites in Western South Dakota. After seeing
their footage and great enthusiasm, I joined the team.
